2012 Chicago North Team Standings

The following chart shows the Gift Card Money earned on the local tour.  The top two will make the Chicago North Team and compete August 26, 2012 against the Chicago South Tour.  With only 4 tournaments remaining on the Chicago North schedule, there is time for many to make run.

Where there is only one player listed in a flight, the Tour Director will select a player to pair with that player.  The team will consist of 24 Player's to represent the Chicago North.  Those who make the Team get 36 holes of golf, shirt and lunch at no cost.  The event was funded by the member's and 50/50 Raffle.  Good Luck!

Results at Bridges of Poplar Creek

Bridges of Poplar Creek (Hoffman Estates, IL) is a Par 70 and not overly long.  It has been over 5 years since the tour visited this venue and the changes that were boasted about were very subtle, but the greens were still the same.  Unfortunately due to the heat wave experienced in the Chicago area the past couple weeks, the superintendant did not roll or cut the greens to their typical speed for far of burn out.  In addition to the changes, some holes were widened and areas cleared which made some holes play much easier.  Scores were low and the low round was turned in by Mark Palmer shooting a two under par 68.

Bridges of Poplar Creek
Championship Flight: Mark Palmer set the bar high shooting a 33 on the front and the only other competitor was four strokes back as the pair made the turn.  Jon Escondo was unable to get anything going and Mark Palmer coasted to victory shooting a 68 (two under par).
Bridges of Poplar Creek
Palmer Flight:  Kirk Blakney has been the hottest Palmer Player and he continued his success shooting two over par; 72.  Garrett Patten was hot on his heels but Kirk fired a one under on the back to win for the fourth time in 2012.
Bridges of Poplar Creek
Hogan Flight:  Eric Swanson finally reached the winners circle shooting a great round, 74.  His best finish was 2nd at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.  On his tail was Mike Coble who lost in sudden death playoff at Prairie Landing and Kendall Raczek.  Eric began his tour debut as a Palmer flight but requested to move to Hogan to get more tour experience.  It took his 6th tournament as a Hogan to hoist the trophy.
Bridges of Poplar Creek
Sarazen Flight: John Carrato records his second win of the year posting a nine over par; 79.  Eddie Stephens was close on his heels and has been playing much better since getting his lessons during the Heartland major at Swan Lake.  Eddie was three strokes back after nine but began to close in fast on the back nine.  John Carrato held onto his lead winning by one stroke over Eddie stephens.
Bridges of Poplar Creek
Jones Flight:  Uzair Syed turned in his best round of the year shooting an 85 (15 over par) to win by six strokes.  Uzair took a four stroke lead after nine and turned in a 41 on the back securing his first win on tour.
Bridges of Poplar Creek
Snead Flight:  Greg Harris has been a member on tour for awhile and hasn’t visited the winners circle since 2009.  2012 has been his year with winning three events; one being a Major at Myrtle Beach.  John Pacheco is the most consistent and strongest Snead Player on the North Tour but when Greg Harris jumped to a 6 stroke lead after nine, it appeared Greg would easily coast to victory.  John began closing the gap while Greg was faltering on the back nine.  Greg held on to win by one stroke shooting 86 while John posted an 87.

Prairie Landing Golf Club (West Chicago, IL) is a favorite stop for the Chicago Tour.  It is a links style course for the front nine and a mix with several tree lined holes.  Wind is a major factor along with large greens that roll fast.  Player’s would find themselves with a possible three putt or more if they ended up on the wrong part of the green.  Hole number started out with a tough position which short left was the best opportunity to two putt.  Sunday’s tournament offered warm temperatures in the mid 80’s which was a far cry from the sweltering heat and humidity over the past couple weeks.  The front nine is unprotected from the wind yet the back nine which has trees to block the wind played the most difficult.

Congratulations to the Champions of the Prairie Landing Classic.
Prairie Landing Classic
Championship Flight: Pat Polzin posted a 76 to win over Brooks Biggs and Matt Bergstrom who both shot 77.  Matt Bergstrom had the early lead posting a one under par 35 on the front nine but stumbled on the back shooting a 42.  Brooks Biggs shot 36 on the front and posted a five over par 41 on the back to shoot 77.
Prairie Landing Classic
Palmer Flight:  Mike Anderson posted a 78 to win by three strokes over Raj Jayaraman.  Dan Grabinski was tied after nine with Mike and Raj with a 39 but the inward nine wasn’t so kind and Dan posted a 50 to fall to ninth.  Jon Borgen tried to make a charge but was only able to match Mike Anderson’s 39 on the back finishing 4 strokes back.
Prairie Landing Classic
Hogan Flight:  Matt Love continues playing well posting a winning score of 84.  DeRell Durr had the early lead shooting a 40 on the front but as seen with other player’s, the back proved more challenging with DeRell posting a 47 to finish tie for fourth.  Mike Doyle was also in good shape shooting an outward nine score of 41 but also struggled on the back shooting an inward score of 52.
Prairie Landing Classic
Sr. Hogan Flight:  Bob Sherry won in a playoff against Mike Coble who both shot 82.  Seven of the 11 player’s had a shot at winning the tournament with only a couple strokes separating the early leaders Chuck Gleason and Mike Coble.  Bob Sherry took charge posting a 39 on the back to tie Mike Coble who shot 42-40.  Bob Sherry teed off first and hit his drive onto the short Par four 1st hole putting a lot of pressure on Mike.  Bob was in the area where many golfer’s three and four putt.  Bob positioned a great lag putt to about three feet and made the putt to win the playoff.
Prairie Landing Classic
Sarazen Flight: Andrew O’Neil once again hoisted the winner’s trophy and is the top Sarazen player on the Chicago North Tour. Newcomer Terry Witte made a run at winning his first tournament but fell to the challenge of the back nine posting a 47 to fall 2 strokes back of Andrew.
Prairie Landing Classic
Sr. Sarazen Flight:  Mark Giebelhausen won in a playoff against Eddie Stephens who both shot 83.  Bill Neiert had the early lead by one shooting an outward score of 42 but posted an inward round of 46 to fall 5 strokes out of first.  John Goldenne was in the hunt but fell one stroke back posting a final round of 84.
Prairie Landing Classic
Jones Flight:  Mike Dyer posts a solid round shooting an 81 to win the Jones Flight.  Nomie Namie, Mike Argyrakis, Richard Naef (Milw. Tour) shared the lead shooting 41 on the outward nine.  It was Mike Dyer who took charge posting a 39 on the back to win by two strokes over Nomie.
Prairie Landing Classic
Snead Flight:  Thomas Martinez playing in only his first event of the year takes home the trophy.  Thomas took a three stroke lead over Franklin Morris.  Thomas opened the door posting a 48 on the back but Franklin Morris was unable to make a charge posting a 52 to fall in third place.  Brian Kirschner made a charge posting an inward score of 43 but his 48 on the front nine caused him to fall one shy taking second place.
Prairie Landing Classic
Sr. Snead Flight:  Leo Schnoor held off John Pacheco and Mike Teegen in a playoff to win the Sr. Snead Flight.  Early on it looked like a two man race with Leo shooting a 44 and Mike Teegen shooting a 43.  The back nine was the tale of two nines which closed with three players tied at 92.  Leo posted a par on the first playoff hole to win the tournament in the Sr. Snead Flight over John Pacheco and Mike Teegen.
