Prairie Landing Golf
Club (West Chicago, IL) is a favorite stop for the Chicago Tour. It is a links style course for the front nine
and a mix with several tree lined holes.
Wind is a major factor along with large greens that roll fast. Player’s would find themselves with a
possible three putt or more if they ended up on the wrong part of the
green. Hole number started out with a
tough position which short left was the best opportunity to two putt. Sunday’s tournament offered warm temperatures
in the mid 80’s which was a far cry from the sweltering heat and humidity over
the past couple weeks. The front nine is
unprotected from the wind yet the back nine which has trees to block the wind
played the most difficult.
Congratulations to the Champions of the Prairie Landing
Classic.
Championship Flight:
Pat Polzin posted a 76 to win over Brooks Biggs and Matt Bergstrom who both
shot 77. Matt Bergstrom had the early
lead posting a one under par 35 on the front nine but stumbled on the back
shooting a 42. Brooks Biggs shot 36 on
the front and posted a five over par 41 on the back to shoot 77.
Palmer Flight: Mike Anderson posted a 78 to win by three
strokes over Raj Jayaraman. Dan
Grabinski was tied after nine with Mike and Raj with a 39 but the inward nine
wasn’t so kind and Dan posted a 50 to fall to ninth. Jon Borgen tried to make a charge but was
only able to match Mike Anderson’s 39 on the back finishing 4 strokes back.
Hogan Flight: Matt Love continues playing well posting
a winning score of 84. DeRell Durr had
the early lead shooting a 40 on the front but as seen with other player’s, the
back proved more challenging with DeRell posting a 47 to finish tie for
fourth. Mike Doyle was also in good
shape shooting an outward nine score of 41 but also struggled on the back
shooting an inward score of 52.
Sr. Hogan Flight: Bob Sherry won in a playoff against Mike
Coble who both shot 82. Seven of the 11
player’s had a shot at winning the tournament with only a couple strokes
separating the early leaders Chuck Gleason and Mike Coble. Bob Sherry took charge posting a 39 on the
back to tie Mike Coble who shot 42-40.
Bob Sherry teed off first and hit his drive onto the short Par four 1st
hole putting a lot of pressure on Mike. Bob
was in the area where many golfer’s three and four putt. Bob positioned a great lag putt to about
three feet and made the putt to win the playoff.
Sarazen Flight: Andrew
O’Neil once again hoisted the winner’s trophy and is the top Sarazen player on
the Chicago North Tour. Newcomer Terry Witte made a run at winning his first
tournament but fell to the challenge of the back nine posting a 47 to fall 2
strokes back of Andrew.
Sr. Sarazen Flight: Mark Giebelhausen won in a playoff against
Eddie Stephens who both shot 83. Bill
Neiert had the early lead by one shooting an outward score of 42 but posted an
inward round of 46 to fall 5 strokes out of first. John Goldenne was in the hunt but fell one
stroke back posting a final round of 84.
Jones Flight: Mike Dyer posts a solid round shooting an 81
to win the Jones Flight. Nomie Namie,
Mike Argyrakis, Richard Naef (Milw. Tour) shared the lead shooting 41 on the
outward nine. It was Mike Dyer who took
charge posting a 39 on the back to win by two strokes over Nomie.
Snead Flight: Thomas Martinez playing in only his first
event of the year takes home the trophy.
Thomas took a three stroke lead over Franklin Morris. Thomas opened the door posting a 48 on the
back but Franklin Morris was unable to make a charge posting a 52 to fall in
third place. Brian Kirschner made a
charge posting an inward score of 43 but his 48 on the front nine caused him to
fall one shy taking second place.
Sr. Snead Flight: Leo Schnoor held off John Pacheco and Mike
Teegen in a playoff to win the Sr. Snead Flight. Early on it looked like a two man race with Leo
shooting a 44 and Mike Teegen shooting a 43.
The back nine was the tale of two nines which closed with three players
tied at 92. Leo posted a par on the
first playoff hole to win the tournament in the Sr. Snead Flight over John
Pacheco and Mike Teegen.
