Chicago North/Milwaukee Combined to kick off 2012

Chicago North and Milwaukee hosted a combined event to kick off the 2012 Season at Geneva National on the Player Course.  The buzz of the opening of the season was exciting as 98 players assembled to get the 2012 season underway.  The weather wasn’t perfect but comfortable for golf and by the look of the scores, it didn’t appear that the layoff over the winter had an effect on players game.  The low round of the day was turned in by Joe Battaglia (Championship) shooting a 73.

Palmer Flight: Dan Grabinski (80) made his first appearance on the tour with a win beating veteran John Mauck by 2 strokes and three strokes over new member Christopher Moews.

Hogan Flight: John Shemitis wasted no time getting his season started posting a 74 to win by 7 (No Photo)

Sarazen Flight: Laird Hagmann (85) held off Taylor Stout (86) and the only real challenger for the tournament win

Jones Flight: Nomie Namie (80) battled John Goldenne (80) in sudden death which took two holes to reveal a winner. 

Snead Flight: Joe Ackeret won by four strokes shooting a great start to his 2012 season shooting an 88.

Sr. Palmer Flight: Terry Perimen posted a round of 80 but there were five others in striking distance with 5^th place only 3 strokes back

Sr. Hogan Flight: Don Jongeward (82) held off newcomer Butch Luther (83) and Mark Titone (84) to open his season with a win.

Sr. Sarazen Flight: Bill Neiert (80) waited patiently as scores came in when it was revealed he was tied with Mike Caithamer (80).  However, Bill birdied the second playoff hole to capture the win

Chicago South Stormed the Major at Lakes of the Ozarks, MO

While many Chicago South Tour Members battled the rough conditions at Gleneagles CC in Lemont, IL over the weekend, some of their fellow members traveled to Missouri to compete in Lake of the Ozarks Classic Major. Both Chicago North and South are representing their respective tour at Majors, but it is Chicago South that has had the most success. Congratulations to the following individuals on their success, they have all qualified for the 2012 Sr. National or National Championship as a result of finishing in the Top 3.

Chicago South Tour:

Brooks Biggs (Championship Flight 0-3.9) posted a two day total 143 to shoot even par and win by 12 strokes

Clay Koenig (Jones Flight 16 – 19.9) posted a two day total 180 (90 avg.) to win by 9 strokes

Tom Ward (Sr. Sarazen Flight 12 – 15.9) finished in Third Place

Richard Ledbetter (Sr. Jones 16 – 19.9) finished in Second Place

John Mudrock (Sr. Jones 16 – 19.9) Tied for Third Place

Chuck is the latest Chicago North Tour Member to compete in a sunshine state and bring home a major Trophy.  Chuck posted solid rounds of 76 and 78 to win by 5 strokes.  Great start Chuck to the start of the 2012 season and with his win at the Disney Major, now qualifies for the 2012 National Championship.  Chuck needs only to complete a total of 5 rounds with at least one after June 1st and can begin preparing for the National Championship.

2012 GCAM Tour - Chicago North Gets Underway

The 2012 Golf Channel AM Tour season officially began in October of 2011 and starts back up again on Saturday April 21st in Lake Geneva at Geneva National on the Player Course.  Both Chicago North and Milwaukee are hosting the event with one of the largest fields ever for the two tours.  The field of 99 will compete within their respective flight which consists of 9 flights including 3 Senior Flights.

The Chicago North Tour Members have another goal and that is to make the Chicago North Team.  Players will compete not only to win their flight over the weekend, but earn Golf Galaxy Gift Cards which will be accumulated and used to rank the player for the right to represent their flight in the Chicago Ryder Cup for Chicago North.

Chicago North members who competed in October have a head start in their respective flight ranking.  There is plenty of time for players to earn a spot on the team with 14 events to compete in.  The Chicago Ryder Cup is a 48 player team event between Chicago North (24 players) and Chicago South (24 players).  The members who make the team get 36 holes of Ryder Cup style golf, shirt and lunch at NO cost.  Part of every tournament entry fee goes toward funding the Chicago Ryder Cup.  Here are the rankings as we get ready to start up again:

First Tournament - Player Course at Geneva National

The first event of 2012 is a combined tournament (Chicago North & Milwaukee) which will take place on the Player Course at Geneva National in Wisconsin.  90 players have registered thus far and more are expected to register this week.   For the first time on the Chicago or Milwaukee Tours there will be 9 flights competing: Championship, Palmer, Sr. Palmer, Hogan, Sr. Hogan, Sarazen, Sr. Sarazen, Jones and Snead.  The field in each flight is strong and made up of players who have won multiple tournaments and majors.
